The Hound Hut Cold Pressed Dog Food in Fish is a complete, balanced adult recipe built around 42% dried ground fish — cold-pressed using gentle, low-temperature processing to protect the vitamins, enzymes, and omega fatty acids that high-heat extrusion can destroy. Rich in omega-3 and naturally hypoallergenic, it’s a strong choice for dogs with sensitive stomachs, skin conditions, or known protein intolerances. Every ingredient serves a purpose: sweet potato and potato for digestible energy, beet pulp and chicory inulin for gut health, and a herb and botanical blend — fennel, sage, thyme, nettle, turmeric, dandelion root — that supports overall wellbeing without synthetic additives.

Best for:

Dogs with sensitive stomachs or skin, those on elimination diets or novel protein protocols, dogs with known intolerances to chicken, beef, or lamb, raw feeders looking for a complementary dry option, owners who want to feed raw but need a gentler alternative, and anyone looking for a complete cold-pressed food with a clean, transparent ingredient list.

The Hound Hut Expert View:

As a specialist raw feeding retailer, we didn’t develop a cold pressed range to move away from raw — we developed it to sit alongside it. Raw feeding remains our first recommendation for most dogs, and everything we know about raw informed how we built this recipe. Cold pressing is the closest a dry food gets to the nutritional profile of raw: gentle, low-temperature processing preserves the delicate vitamins, enzymes, and fatty acids that high-heat extrusion can destroy. The food behaves differently in the stomach, too — dissolving smoothly and breaking down gently rather than swelling and expanding rapidly the way traditional kibble does.

We created this range specifically for two groups of dogs: those who can’t be fed raw for practical or medical reasons, and those whose owners want to complement a raw diet with a high-quality dry option that works in harmony with raw feeding. Cold pressed food breaks down easily, making it far more compatible for combination feeding or travel than heavily processed kibbles.

We chose fish as our first protein for a reason. It’s a genuine novel protein for many UK dogs — the majority have been fed chicken or beef their whole lives, so fish sidesteps the most common dietary triggers immediately. The natural omega-3 profile from marine fish is also significantly higher than land-based proteins, which is vital for coat quality and supporting dogs with inflammatory skin conditions. At 42% dried ground fish, this isn’t a token inclusion — it’s the primary ingredient and the foundation of everything else in the bowl.

Benefits:

  • Gentle Low-Temperature Processing – Cold pressing preserves heat-sensitive vitamins, enzymes, and omega fatty acids that are degraded or destroyed in standard high-heat kibble production
  • Compatible with Raw Feeding – Dissolves smoothly in the stomach rather than swelling and expanding, making it far more suitable for combination feeding than heavily processed kibble
  • 42% Dried Ground Fish – Fish is the primary ingredient and the principal protein source — not a secondary addition
  • Rich in Omega-3 (0.97%) and Omega-6 (2.85%) – Marine-sourced fatty acids support healthy skin, coat condition, and help modulate inflammatory responses
  • Naturally Hypoallergenic – Fish is a novel protein for many dogs, making this a strong option for elimination diets and dogs with intolerances to common proteins
  • Easily Digestible – Cold-pressed food dissolves and breaks down gently in the stomach, reducing the digestive load compared to expanded kibble
  • Botanical Herb Blend – Fennel, sage, thyme, nettle, turmeric, dandelion root, and oregano for natural digestive and wellbeing support
  • Joint Support Included – Contains chondroitin and glucosamine to support joint health, particularly useful for active or older dogs
  • Complete Adult Nutrition – Formulated to meet all nutritional requirements for adult dogs as a sole diet

Feeding Guidelines:

The quantities below are a guide only — requirements vary by age, activity level, and breed. When transitioning from another food, introduce gradually over 7–10 days, starting with 25% cold-pressed and increasing daily until it replaces the previous food entirely. For best results split the daily amount into two feeds.

Adult Dogs (by current weight):

  • 1–2 kg: 12–24 g/day
  • 2–3 kg: 24–36 g/day
  • 3–5 kg: 36–60 g/day
  • 5–10 kg: 60–120 g/day
  • 10–20 kg: 120–240 g/day
  • 20–30 kg: 240–360 g/day
  • 30–40 kg: 360–480 g/day
  • 40–50 kg: 480–600 g/day
  • 50–60 kg: 600–720 g/day
  • 60+ kg: 720+ g/day

Puppies (by expected adult weight):

  • 1–4 kg: 70–100 g/day
  • 5–10 kg: 170–210 g/day
  • 11–25 kg: 260–310 g/day
  • 25–45 kg: 460–520 g/day
  • 45+ kg: 670–740 g/day

Safety & Suitability:

  • Suitable for: Adult dogs of all breeds; the puppy feeding guide above makes it suitable for puppies when fed at appropriate quantities
  • Combining with raw: Cold pressed food is suitable for combination feeding alongside raw. It breaks down easily in the stomach and is far more compatible with raw feeding than heavily processed kibble — however, as with any dietary change, introduce gradually and monitor your dog’s digestion
  • Novel protein: Fish is a novel protein for many UK dogs, making this suitable for elimination diets — however, if your dog has a confirmed fish allergy, this food is not appropriate
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Once opened, reseal or transfer to an airtight container and use within 6 weeks
  • Transition: Always transition gradually over 7–10 days to avoid digestive upset, regardless of how gentle the new food is
  • Veterinary advice: If your dog has a diagnosed medical condition, is pregnant, or is a working dog with significantly elevated energy needs, consult your vet before changing diet

FAQs:

What makes cold-pressed food different from kibble? Cold pressing uses gentler, lower-temperature processing than the high-heat extrusion used to make standard kibble, which means heat-sensitive vitamins, enzymes, and fatty acids are better preserved. Cold-pressed food also behaves differently in the stomach — it dissolves smoothly and breaks down gently rather than swelling and expanding the way extruded kibble does, making it easier on the digestive system.

Can I feed this alongside raw? Yes — cold pressed food is one of the most compatible dry options for raw feeders. It breaks down easily and is far more suitable for combination feeding than heavily processed kibble. We developed this range specifically with raw feeders in mind — as a high-quality complement or a gentle alternative for dogs that can’t be fed raw. As with any change, introduce gradually and monitor your dog’s digestion.

Is fish a good protein for dogs with allergies? For many UK dogs, yes — fish is a novel protein that they’ve had little or no prior exposure to, making it a strong first choice for elimination diets or dogs with intolerances to more common proteins like chicken, beef, or lamb. The omega-3 content also actively supports skin health in sensitive dogs.

How do I transition my dog onto this food? Introduce gradually over 7–10 days. Start with approximately 25% cold-pressed food mixed with 75% of the current food, increasing the proportion daily. This allows the digestive system to adjust and reduces the risk of loose stools or stomach upset during the switch.

How much should I feed? Use the feeding guide above as a starting point and adjust based on your dog’s body condition, activity level, and age. Active dogs will need more; less active or older dogs may need less. Split the daily amount into two meals where possible.

How long does it stay fresh once opened? Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container and use within 6 weeks of opening for optimal freshness and nutritional integrity.
