Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to defrost sprats before feeding?
You can feed sprats frozen as a cooling treat (especially in summer) or defrost them first. Many dogs enjoy crunching frozen sprats, whilst others prefer them thawed. Always supervise your dog when feeding whole fish treats.
How many sprats should I feed per day?
Sprats are treats and should not exceed 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake. For a medium dog (15kg), 2-3 sprats per day is appropriate. Adjust your dog's main meals accordingly when feeding treats. Always ensure fresh water is available.
Are sprats suitable for puppies?
Yes! Sprats are excellent for puppies over 12 weeks old. The omega-3 fatty acids support brain development, whilst the calcium from whole fish (including bones) supports growing bones and teeth. Start with smaller portions and always supervise.
